He spent most of his life in Stuttgart, where from 1782 he was a court musician to Count Friedrich Wilhelm Karl of Württemberg (Elector 1803, King, 1806). In 1802 he became Konzertmeister, and in 1815 court organist at the court church and director of the Stiftsmusik. He retired in 1832. His first wife was the daughter of the instrument maker Johann Friedrich Haug.
