Brief bio from Pierre Key's Music Yearbook, 1929: "Conductor and composer; successor to Oscar Fried as conductor of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra; born in 1878; killed in an automobile accident at Pasewalk, Pomerania, May, 1928." (Also, violist.) His wife,who died in the same car accident was the violinist Lili Bohnke. His three young children were brought up by his father-in-law Franz von Mendelssohn of the Bankhaus Mendelssohn (1735-1938, succeded by Deutsche Bank) . The pianist Robert-Alexander Bohnke (1927-2004) was his son.
