Miscellaneous information
- After receiving a classical education in Amsterdam, Loek Dikker established himself as a jazz pianist and composer in the 1960s. With his jazz group, "The Waterland Ensemble," he extensively toured Europe, the USA, and Canada in the following years. As a composer, he contributed to modern dance, musical theatre, and other stage productions. From the 1980s, he returned to classical music, writing film music mainly for large orchestras and collaborating with directors such as Paul Verhoeven (The Fourth Man), Eric Red (Body Parts), and Margarethe von Trotta (Rosenstrasse). His musical style and instrumentation gained recognition in cinema, and he was awarded the "Golden Calf" in Amsterdam, the "Saturn Award" in Hollywood, and the "Premio CineMusica" (Best European Film Music) in Italy. Additionally, he has written chamber music and concerto pieces and has arranged several of Beethoven's piano sonatas for symphony orchestra. Loek lives and works in the Concert Hall District of Amsterdam, where he resides with his family.
