Co-founder of the
Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde, Vienna in 1812. Violinist at Esterhazy and dedicatee of some of Joseph Haydn's chamber works and at least one of his symphonies (no.81 in G). (OML is dubious that Haydn- rather than Tost- wrote the dedication of the Haydn works he commissioned, but claims that Spohr
did dedicate his; whereas Spohr's octet, e.g., was not dedicated to Tost.
