Extra Information | Originally written for voices and chamber ensemble as incidental music for a play by René Morax. In early 1923, the chamber version was performed as a standalone piece ("symphonic psalm"), with interspersed narration between musical numbers and slight reordering. Later in 1923, Honegger re-orchestrated the piece, and the symphonic psalm for full orchestra was first performed in December 1923. |
