The original print (1728) survived in one sole copy, which was held in the library in Königsberg (now Kaliningrad), and consisted of 13 pages in oblong quarto format. This was either lost or destroyed in 1945. Telemann's 1728 catalogue gives the instrumentation as follows: "Helden-Music, oder 12 neue musicalische Marches, auf zween Hautbois, oder Violinen etc. gerichtet, deren 6 mit einer Trompete, und 3 mit 2 Waldhörnern, begleitet werden können, alle aber auch auf dem Claviere allein zu spielen sind [...]". ("Helden-Music [Heroic Music], or 12 new musical Marches, set for two Oboes, or Violins, etc, of which 6 can be accompanied by a Trumpet, and 3 [can be accompanied] by 2 French Horns, however all may be performed on the Keyboard alone [...]")
