Extra Information Joululaulu was arranged for cello and orchestra around 1912, while Suru was arranged the following year (1913).

Navigation etc.

  • When Kuula was acting as conductor in Oulu, he was invited to spend Christmas 1910 at the home of Mr. K. Sovijärvi to whom he gave the composition 'Joululaulu' as a present. Later it got the name of 'Chanson sans paroles'. The piece 'Suru' has been inspired by the painting 'Sorg' (1894) of Albert Edelfelt who in turn was inspired by the poem 'PÃ¥ Värnamo Marknad' of Carl Snoilsky.
