manuscript begins in medias res - possibly in the middle of the first movement. A largo, scherzo and trio follow. From clefs at the beginning of the scherzo (instrumentation is not specified) seems to be the standard, not the Schubert/Hummel/Farrenc/Goetz quintet-with-double bass, lineup, and from the description at the Portuguese Library (and perhaps somewhere on the score or where it was found?) one gathers it is a piano and strings, not winds, quintet.
Actually, according to Wikipedia, this work was finished, is his opus 16- the manuscript is an incomplete version of a finished work, not a manuscript of a never-finished one. It has even been recorded (in its finished form)- the first movement is an Allegro moderato. (In the finished form the scherzo is in 2nd place, the 3rd movement a Larghetto. One assumes this is the same work as the published quintet despite the tempo differences...)
- That's not the Op.16 quintet. There are also piano sextet versions of all the 3 quintets.
