This piece utilizes a 0/0 time signature specifying time that is suspended. It is not free time. Non defined meter (i.e. absence of a time signature) and 0/0 meter are not the same in any manner of performance. Performers should understand the difference. And it is substantial. 0/0 meter is defined, and this definition is a direct result of serial music: 0 thru 11 [mod12]. Suspended time is more a frozen moment in time, of becoming. A 0/0 time signature specifies forward time, backward time, elements becoming and going, stretching, floating. You get the idea. This time signature notation is just a ‘snapshot’ of such potential
