Not to be confused with the librettist named Hermann Francke.
His works are mainly vocal, including several oratorios such as Isaaks Opferung, Op.75, piano pieces, a piano trio, Op.27 and a cello sonata, Op.69. Op.numbers go up to 91 (HMB 1910).
From 1854 to 1919 he greatly contributed to the musical life of Sorau in Lusatia, now Zary in Poland. The town was the seat of Count Erdmann von Promnitz in the 18th c, and Telemann and Printz were his court composers.
HMB lists two H Frankes, one starting in the 1860s, the other in the 1890s. This is the earlier one.
