- According to Joubert’s biographical notes for Les Maîtres contemporains de l'orgue vol. 5 (1914), Joseph Lefébure was born In Gand (Ghent) and at 14, replaced his father at the organ of Ste-Elisabeth. After his musical studies at the conservatory of his native town, he was awarded a First Prize for harmony in 1899. He began conducting in 1906 at the theater of Ghent.
