Miscellaneous information
A Music Hall artiste and comedian, popular during the birth of the Music Hall. Born in Stockport, he was a commercial traveller before a career on the stage. Debuting in Glasgow in 1863, Liston started out as the Lion comique, where saw him playing the role of a upper-class toff, like George Leybourne. His signature tune was "When Johnny Comes Marching Home", which he is listed in newspaper programs as his repertoire. He remained on the stage after changing with public tastes from Lion Comique to a society entertainer at the piano, a very popular form of Music Hall entertainment. He also remained to the Radio Age, surviving Variety with his piano-entertaining. He retired in 1925, and died in 1929 at the age of 85.
