Of Belgian origin, this violinist made his career in France, spending his last 30 years as head of a music school in Cambrai. He composed four symphonies, and many works for violin: concertos, sonatas, piano trios and string quartets, published between 1839 and 1875. About a half-dozen of these have been digitized by Gallica (including manuscripts of several of his 5th string quartet, his violin concerto Op.69, and a concerto "for violin and piano" (reduction or original instrumentation?) described as "composed October 1859 in Cambrai, revised in Algiers June 1886."
