Misc. Notes Plate suggests ca.1883. HMB lists 1880s publications of Comala in 1885 (klavierauszug, "Volks-ausgabe" edition), 1888 (chorus parts only) and in 1889 (new, corrected edition). Forget plate, which is often misleading; -description- is closest to the 1889 edition.

  • Solo roles: Comala, Fingal, Dersagrena, Melicoma, and there is a Soprano II solo in no.5
  • In no.4, Gade specifies "Chor der Jungfrauen"
A book on the standard cantatas gives "1843" for premiere date, but the 1846 April AMZ (Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung, Volume 48, starting page 225) reports on the premiere and describes it as a new work. (Also, the autograph of the prelude is dated 1846.) - Schissel

The composer specifies Symphonic Poem/Dramatic poem, not cantata.

New recording issued on 2018 on DaCapo, and an earlier recording on Kontrapunkt.
