Written in the New Year of 2025 after a conversation with an old friend and bassoonist. The Piano is added as a contrast in sound to the bassoon. The concertino is short (about 13.5 mins) and is basically light classical in style. It is in a single movement with several sections all based on North country tunes. Morpeth Rant is a reel / hornpipe by William Shield (1748-1829). Bonny at Morn is a most beautiful Northumbrian lullaby and has been set by Benjamin Britten amongst others. North Country Lass / Molly of the North Country is a romantic folk poem. The tune I have used is original.
