N.B. This piece is no longer believed to be by Telemann.
- Hellmuth Christian Wolff posited this idea in 1981 ('Georg Philipp Telemann - 300 Jahre', Musikforschung 34, 1981, p.49), and it was further researched and proved in 1995 by Hans-Joachim Schulze ('Der Schulmeister (TWV 20:57) - eine komische Kantate', in Telemanniana et Alia Musicologia (Oschersleben: Ziethen, 1995), pp.117-121).
- The piece's incipit appears in a 1768 supplement to Breitkopf's thematic catalogue, and it is listed in the non-thematic catalogues of 1770 and 1836; each time entitled Der Schulmeister in der Singschule by Fehre.
- RISM still attributes this to Telemann.
- See programme notes (in German) of a performance of the piece.
