Misc. Notes there is another Died(e)rich Krug listed by MusicSack, born 1845, but the older man was known to have had works published by Pond (Firth, Pond & Co.) at the time when the younger Krug was 9 years old, and the thought of a possible continuity of association suggests that D. Krug might be the elder one- the father of Arnold Krug, according to Baker 1919 - if it is either of them at all.

Misc. Notes HMB lists at least 2 I think piano arr. just in the first year this was published alone, but by the time (1920s??) this Allan&C edition was published it may have been assumed the work was always for piano solo, no arranger specified because no other version known, etc.

Navigation etc.

Usually played apparently in arrangements but clearish from HMB that orchestral version is primary and piano version etc. are arrangements by other hands at least mostly. Popular work at the time. ("As played by the Chicago Orchestra, with great success.")

(Scharwache- literally, "mass alert", "throng at guard", something like that.)

The titlepage of an arrangement of this work for piano refers to it as a march.
