Who has not heard of "Doesticks"?
"Q. K. Philander Doesticks, P. B."!! whose communications have been made known so widely throughout the country by the favorable notice of the public press generally!
His quick and brilliant flashes of satirical wit - humorous and laughter-provoking allusions and comparisons of persons, and places; prove to the reader that they emanate from no ordinary mind, but that the writer is a keen observer of human nature, and garners every straw to fill his storehouse dedicated to Momus.
The writer, who has passed many happy hours in his company, takes the liberty of inscribing the music herein, to him, after perusing the manuscript of a volume which is to be published early in June by Edward Livermore (who has kindly volunteered to publish this piece of music) 20 Beckman Street New York, which is to be issued in superior style 12mo cloth, gilt, and will contain many illustrations by the best Artists. It will be sent by mail free of expense to any part of the Union, on the receipt of one dollar for the cloth bound, or seventy five cents for the paper bound, by the publisher, or it can be obtained at all the Bookstores, and if it gives to its readers, a tenth part of the pleasurable emotion that it has to the writer, double the price of the book would not be withheld to secure such an attractive work.
That the author may reap a rich harvest from his endeavors to throw gleams of sunshine into life's pathway, is the earnest wish of his friend, Herr Albertsberger.
