History

Edition Strache of Vienna was a literary publisher active from 1920 to 1933.
Its origins were in the company founded by Eduard Strache in 1881 in Warnsdorf, Bohemia. It published seeral newspapers ("Abwehr", "Haider Wochenblatt"), and some musical scores.
Following Eduard Strache's death in 1912 his son Robert Strache (1875-1943) started a branch in Vienna. From 1917 Vienna was the headquarters, led by Johann Pilz from 1917 to 1923. Production was vigorous from 1919 to 1921, but declined until the firm closed in 1933.
Strache was important in Austrian literary expressionism ("'gilt als Wiege des kurzlebigen österreichischen Expressionismus'"). Authors included: Paul Leppin, Robert Bracco, Georg Froeschel, Elisabeth Janstein, Rudolf Jeremias Kreutz, Max Roden, Otto Soyka, Jakob Wassermann, Oskar Wiener, Martina Wied, Robert Scheu, Paul Stefan and Egmont Colerus. They also produced several collections (Mappe) of artistic prints, such as one by Schiele in 1920.
In addition to musical classics they published some new works by Eric Zeisl (1905-59) and Richard Stöhr (1874—1967).
