According to Smith’s Musical Comedy in America: From The Black Crook to South Pacific, From The King & I to Sweeney Todd, only a very brief initial run, but remained alive for thirty years in numerous places. (For example The Sydney Morning Herald of July 31 1891 reports that tomorrow will begin a run of Evangeline at the Criterion Theatre, and that the composer had just performed (an orchestral version) of his Adonis Gavotte of 1885.)
