How's this list supposed to work? It is my understanding that the Sibley archive will grow in the future. Also, is there at least in theory a way to systematically check which Sibley scores are still missing here, other than checking them manually one by one? --Leonard Vertighel 04:52, 21 March 2009 (EDT)
- The archive will grow, but we can track their index (currently at 6635). The attempt in the first stage is to get everything below 6635 so that we can be very systematic once the deluge of scores come in. There is no way to systematically check, because many of the originally Sibley files have been modified (cover pages taken out, etc). Ultimately, when the wiki is upgraded to 1.14, we will have a file moving function, and people can move old Sibley files to the new Sibley file name format (which would make sure they can be tracked).
- If you have a better way of ordering Sibley score submission (by index maybe?), do feel free to modify the project page. --Feldmahler2 12:21, 21 March 2009 (EDT)
- If they have a consistent index numbering, then it might be easier to just mirror it by index number instead of by composer name; in chunks of say 100 numbers. This will yield less incsonsistencies and will be far more complete. Subscribe to their mailinglist to have updates on new uploads. Is an direct upload from Sibley somehow saved in a database? If so than listing the handles could serve as a monitor of the mirroring.
- Problem is, that database is shared by all the projects at UR, so it is not just Sibley. In fact, there are a lot of non-Sibley files in the first ones (the numbers begin at 1802/1000 and is now up to 1802/6638 or something; you can step through them yourself). That is why I didn't suggest doing it by index.
- Also, after 6635 we should always use the new special page, and even re-submit ones that do not use it. Ultimately there will be another special page that will automatically generate the next unsubmitted Sibley score, but for it to work properly all Sibley files need to have the new file naming system for Sibley, which can only be gotten with the special file submitter. --Feldmahler2 17:26, 21 March 2009 (EDT)

Template
I've just finished changing the older references to "University of Rochester" to "Sibley Music Library", and adding URLs (handles) where needed. But there are still a large number of Sibley scores without any URLs. Would it be helpful to have a template like "This file is part of the Sibley Mirroring Project", just as Peter has done for MIT? — P.davydov 13:18, 21 March 2009 (EDT)

Now you tell me!!! :-) I don't suppose there's any way to convert the existing URLs using Wikibots? Anyway, having finished checking the first 200 Sibley references, I see that there are another 1,054 to go <gulp>. Would anyone else like to help out? Doing a text search on the word "Sibley" produces a list of results in the same order each time, so you can choose a particular range of numbers to work on, and maybe say which you're doing here to avoid any duplication. #1-200 have been done, and I'm going to work on other things for a while... Percy Grainger
Earlier today, I uploaded their one piece by Percy Grainger, only to have it summarily deleted because it's still under copyright in Canada. So, are we supposed to mirror the entire collection, or aren't we?--SarekOfVulcan 19:07, 29 May 2009 (EDT)
- It can't be a perfect mirror, because Canada's copyright law and that of the USA are very different. Grainger (d.1961) will be protected in Canada until 1/1/2012. In the USA, the majority of his work is already public domain due to a) publication before 1923; and b) his and Ella's failure to renew copyrights 28 years after publication (the big kahuna being Lincolnshire Posy). No, you can't post Grainger here, nor can you post Fritz Kreisler (d.1962), or any other composer who died less than 50 years ago. Carolus 23:09, 29 May 2009 (EDT) (IMSLP Copyright Admin)
