Manuscript Sources D-SHm C65:1 (this - 4 pages of the published score* of the 3rd act prelude - is inscribed by the composer to Julius Schreck.) Scoring of the excerpt of the prelude given by RISM as "vl (2), vla, vlc, cb, fl (2), ob (2), cl (2), fag (2), cor (4), tr (2), trb (3), timp". Fleisher also gives the scoring of the prelude - based on their copy of the Carl Simon published full score (Monatsbericht (1895), p.346) from a copy held or once held by the Philadelphia Orchestra - as 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani, strings.
