Navigation etc.

There is at least one (no.14, Miserere mei Deus), that has 4 voices as a "Primus Chorus" and 4 voices as "Secundis Chorus (si placet, quatuor vocibus paribus)", and if done this way, requires 8 voices.

There are three items in the set which optionally require 8 voices: besides the Miserere, the improperia Popule meus (no.27) has one choir singing in Greek alternating with another singing in Latin; and the ninth lamentation (no.30, Incipit oratio Jeremiæ) sets the final refrain (Jerusalem, convertere …) for either the same 6 voices as the rest of the setting, or optionally for 8 voice double choir. So apart from the 8 voice Jerusalem (itself optional), the other instances may be sung by a single choir if it cannot be divided antiphonally (which is the ideal for the psalms, canticles, and the improperia).
