J.H. Paling of Rotterdam published mainly popular works from 1838 to 1848. The owner was probably related to the Paling brothers: W.H. Paling (1825-1895) who emigrated to Australia in the 1850s, and who founded his own successful publishing company in Sydney in 1860, and Richard John Paling (1830-1914) who also emigrated to Australia in the 1850s, and had his own publishing company there.
