The title of each movement refers to the liturgical words of the Libera me, which is a Roman Catholic responsory that is sung in the Office of the Dead and at the absolution of the dead. Moreover they are all associated with the idea of fire. In the first movement it is the disruptive and rogue fire and in the second movement it is the fire of redemption and divine love.
