Navigation etc.
Zellner's first two piano trios are for the usual complement (violin, cello, piano). (The first, op. 5 in B minor, was pub. in 1870 and the second, his op. 25 in F, was published, according to Hofmeister, in 1881.) This trio is for the violin-viola-piano instrumentation that was also used by Ignaz Lachner, Max Reger and others, and also has an alternative part for cello.
Published by 1905 (mentioned in Eschmann & Ruthardt, Wegweiser durch die Klavier-Literatur, ca.1905. Also, poss. in Hofmeisters Handbuch 1904?)
Generally regarded now as having been published ca.1890.
A comment on this page made years ago regarding Zellner's "real" 3rd piano trio not having been published until 2003 mistook a string trio of his published in that year for a piano trio. Not sure at this distance who made that mistake, but apologies. - ES
