Quattro Idoli (Four Idols) is composed of four movements all ending with the same short motive. The sections make very little reference to each other, but at the end of the piece they do so extensively and quite quickly. For a metaphor of the structure of the piece think of it as a four-sided sculpture. One section to each side, and the short motive marking the edges of the sculpture. Now think of the sculpture rotating in front of your eyes but stopping to let you look at each face. Stop - Rotate - Stop - Rotate -Stop - Rotate - Stop. Before it completes a full circle (that is, before it goes back to the first section) it spins quickly to come to a stop on an edge. The edge, the last time you hear the short motive, is all is left of the sculpture.
