Extra Information | R-A-C-H-E-L (composed by Mark Elliot Bergman): This composition is a portrait of my wife, Rachel Bergman. To write the music, I created a cipher (collection of musical pitches) derived from Rachel’s name that has a beautiful, open sound. Those pitches are D (Re), A, C, H(B), E, and A (La). I employed the cipher in transposition, retrograde, and inversion. I also used a two-note descending gesture intended to sound like the name “Ra-chel.” |
