the year 1876 next to Sparks' name is probably not the date of the Scherzo's composition but, I think, probably Sparks' date of death (it was fairly typical to write a date of birth or death in that place on that line at least at times, and this is an edition.) (No- PB/Peter B? Sparks' death date seems to have been in or after 1892.)
