No performances of Stiffelio took place, at any rate, between 1857 and 1968, the year in which copyists' manuscripts of the opera's complete (as opposed to reduced) material were found in libraries allowing for performing material to be created. (From an article on Stiffelio on "Verdi's Middle Period: Source Studies, Analysis, and Performance Practice", University of Chicago Press, 1997.)
