Navigation etc.

First movement begins in an uneasy A minor/C major; its (presumably) main theme Agitato is clearly in A minor; finale is in A minor (ending A major in its last 3 bars though in a cadence going basically F major - D minor - B-flat major - finally A major).

New York Times reviews, available at their website, in the leadup to the NYC premiere by the Flonzaley Quartet in November 1919, mention that this quartet was premiered in Paris that Spring. (Nov. 23 1919 issue.)

Note: Publication noted in the Bibliographie de la France 2e série, 108e année, Nº 4, 24 Janvier 1919, p.28, r.72. (the 1919 volume of Bibliographie de la France accessible via Hathitrust.)

Begun in 1914, first movement completed that year, broken off for military service, concluded when the composer returned in 1918. The December 27 1919 issue of Musical America (linked on the category page, with a brief biography of the composer) also notes that the quartet was recently published by Maurice Senart.
