The manuscript parts, not in Ellerton's hand, are each headed "Quartett No.5 Op.60". A further manuscript set at the RCM, this one in Ellerton's hand, is headed "Quartett in G minor No.6 Op.60". HMB attributes Op.60 to the quartet "No.4" in F minor published by Schott in 1864 (as does Worldcat), so presumably this was the first of a set of three, like Ellerton's Opp.61, 122 and 124, all published as scores in a single volume before March 1859! Autograph manuscript quartets numbered 1 and 2 in C major and F major are both accorded Op.58, so one might suppose the missing Quartet No.3 to be Op.58 also and the Op.61 set to be numbers 7, 8 and 9. His Op.122 no.1 is a different work, also in B♭ major. After that it gets complicated, for example the Op.70 set published by Schott are given numbers 44, 45 and 46.
