The scherzo of Hill's first symphony (in B major) is based on the original scherzo composed for this work (Hill then wrote a new scherzo for the string quartet before publication.) (McNeill, The Australian Symphony from Federation to 1960, p.55, referring to Stiles. Probably also information in the notes to the complete recording series of his quartets.)
