Written between October 7, 1889 and November 30, 1890. First performance March 10, 1895 with choral scored violins under Ludwig Abel in the former Odeon in Munich, likely with organ. (The Odeon housed a 62 register instrument built by Walcker Orgelbau in 1906 designed in collaboration with Max Reger.)
