Who's for putting the Grosse Fuge with the B♭ major quartet?-- Snailey Talk to Me Email me 21:02, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'm going to be a curmudgeon, and say the Große Fuge is fine where it is! At least when I revamped the template I moved the Grosse Fuge into the list of the late quartets as determined by its opus number, rather than leaving it tacked on the end as an afterthought. I think it's a bit much to include it with the B♭ quartet, because it is often played as a stand-alone work, and is moreover often played by string orchestra (e.g. Kovacevich's fine disc of the Emperor concerto has a orch. rendition of the Große Fuge). Putting the fugue in with the quartet would be a bit like returning the original seventh movement to go in with the Mahler's third symphony; in that case, the extra movement is perfectly fine where it ended up (as the final movement of the fourth symphony). - Just asking neutrally. OK, sound reasoning!-- Snailey Talk to Me Email me 00:14, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
