This piece was possibly by John Dowland. In the Matthew Holmes lute books, this piece does not have a composer's name in the usual place, but in between it and the piece above it, there is a "J.D.". The piece above it "Aloe", is definitely by John Dowland, so the "J.D." could refer to "Aloe" instead of "The Sick Tune". Nevertheless, attribution of the piece in recordings is divided, with some people attributing it to Dowland, and others attributing it to "Anonymous". Grove Music does not include it in its list of Dowland's works.
