Though Grove Music lists the instrumentation as 'vn, va/cl, pf", the printed music itself gives no indication that clarinet can be used as an alternate for the viola. Lewis Foreman, in his notes to the Naxos recording of this, says "In fact in this trio Bax marks his viola part also to be playable on the clarinet, and one has to say that now having heard that version, it lies much better on this instrument than the awkwardly placed original viola part." Foreman must be referring to the manuscript, and not the published part.
Cover might, though entry for first edition in British Library catalog gives no indication either - 1925 edition may be another matter. (That 1925 edition even exists seems to have been against the composer's wishes - see excerpt from Farewell, My Youth at external link. Date 1906 also from link.)
