Hi, My Interlibrary loan arrived. Amazingly, I have in my hands an original 1921 print of the Ives Concord Sonata. (Seen once in a great while in the used score market for around $1000.) The move tool is really useful, but as I'm not a sysop I can only do it manually. BTW, I'm hoping that someone will remove the "Leopold" from the "Dvořák, Antonín Leopold" category, as was voted for recently on the Forum. Sibley

Hi Daphnis, You uploaded Children's Carnival by Beach manually. I suppose you know that you can now let IMSLP do this automatically? Just make the work page and then click on 'Upload from Sibley'. I found a beautiful public domain print of Glazunov's Carnaval Overture on Google Book Search. It has some Google watermarks so I did not feel safe to upload it in this state. Molique: Oboe Concerto

Hi, Did Eugen Gugel (1889-1972) actually create the Oboe and Piano reduction, or did he simply edit an already extant reduction? If he's the actual creator of the reduction, we have an obvious copyright issue as you can see. If he's simply the editor, this can be finessed using the 'urtext' rule. Holbrooke: Symphony No.3

I didn't notice any sort of copyright notice on this, so I'm marking it as "checked" for now. I don't recall running across any NIEs for Holbrooke, either. I expect that Holbrooke was one of those composers they really didn't want to waste any legal fees on for NIE filings, etc. Music Sales would spend the money for Stravinsky and Poulenc, but other composers in the Chester catalogue like Goosens and Holbrooke were allowed to slide. Kœchlin's catalogue

Hi Daphnis. I've just replied to your question on P.davydov's talk page, but I thought I would copy it here, since my answer is a bit rambling and maybe he won't want this long paragraph taking up so much space on his page. Here it is, best wishes.

Hello Daphnis! Do you mean publication dates of the works? It has composition dates for all of the works, plus the date and location of first performance for many of them. As for publication, it only lists the name of the publisher, with no date, mostly Salabert and Eschig, some of the early works were published at Sénart, and then there are a number of other publisher names appearing here and there. Although the catalogue is printed in book form, I'm not sure if it was ever available for sale. It has no price on it, or any ISBN number. On the reverse of the title page it only says "Le présent catalogue est en dépôt légal chez: Max Eschig & Cie, 48 rue de Rome, 75008 Paris". And on the second to last page it says "Réalisation et impression LACER - RAMBAULT & GUIOT, Dépot légal n°794, 3e trimestre 1975, Paris". As I mentioned above, a friend of mine here in Paris is a friend of Kœchlin's nephew (that's what she calls him although he must be a great nephew). I could ask her to ask him how someone could get a copy of the catalogue. She said he's on something of a mission to promote Kœchlin, so I'm sure he'd be happy to hear someone is taking an interest... It's a pretty interesting document. In the pages before the actual catalogue begins, there is an introduction by Henri Sauguet, then a nine-page article about Kœchlin by Roger Delage, another article about Kœchlin's life written in English by Robert Francis Nicholas Orledge, then twelve pages of extracts from articles about Kœchlin in the press. It also includes a list of didactic works, a list of articles written by Kœchlin published in the press, and a discography listing recordings from the 30's to the 70's. There is also a list of works that for some reason do not appear in the official catalogue (which I've been meaning to add to the "List of Compositions" page - these account for the missing opus numbers)... Anyway if you'd really like to just see the catalogue, when I have the time I could scan it and send you a pdf. The actual list of works, including the out-of-catalogue works, is only about 50 pages. Romeo & Juliet

So nice to see it appear! My reference here gives the first publication date as being 1944, by Muzfond (apparently a predecessor of Sovietskii Kompozitor). It mentions the piano reduction as being issued by Muzgiz in 1946. I'm getting this from K. Thompson's Dictionary of 20th Century Composers, which is generally pretty good, but not totally error-free. Let me know if you have a better citation. Carolus 05:03, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

I know this will make me sound like a drip, but I just want to stare openmouthed at your incredible number of scans of Villa-Lobos and Martinu...they are an immensely nice addition to the site.
