Archive

May I suggest archiving at least some of your talk page? It makes things easier to read and edit. Generally, people tend to do this every 20 or so messages, (in Carolus's most recent case, 80);-)-- Snailey Yell at me Email me 21:35, 14 March 2009 (EDT)

Yes I know, I've wanted to do this for some time but haven't been bothered enough to learn how. By all means... Daphnis 21:48, 14 March 2009 (EDT)
I tried to make one to find...An archive! I'll link that here.-- Snailey Yell at me Email me 21:52, 14 March 2009 (EDT)

The way you make an archive is you just make a numbered subpage ([[User Talk:Daphnis/archive3]], say), and then cut everything into there, link it and date it!-- Snailey Yell at me Email me 21:58, 14 March 2009 (EDT)

Cool, thanks! Daphnis 22:36, 14 March 2009 (EDT)

Cortot

Hi Daphnis, I moved some of the US-only Cortot files to the US FTP server as they become PD in Canada only in 2013. --Peter talk 06:36, 22 March 2009 (EDT)

Fine with me. Daphnis 09:00, 22 March 2009 (EDT)

Items coming soon

Hi, My Interlibrary loan arrived. Amazingly, I have in my hands an original 1921 print of the Ives Concord Sonata. (Seen once in a great while in the used score market for around $1000.) I've also been informed that the requested volume of Boletin Latino Americana de Musica with the Unanswered Question has been approved. HeHe. Carolus 23:47, 27 March 2009 (EDT)

Smashing. Did you do a comparison with the 1921 against our own copy of Concord? I'm willing to bet it's in the same category as the Songs. Looking forward to seeing these! Daphnis 09:04, 28 March 2009 (EDT)

Sibelius choral works

Dear! I would like to ask for your kind help. My name is Viktor, I'm a graduating student as a choral conductor in Budapest, Hungary, and I'm writing my thesis about Sibelius choir works. I'm in big trouble finding score examples to insert into my analytics (they don't even have them in libraries), and the deadline is very close. Can you please help me by sending me sibelius choir scores in pdf? The songs I'm in the biggest need are: Sydameni laulu, Man fran slatten och havet, Drömmarna If you have others too, than I'd be very very thankful. Please reply me on my e-mail address: hviktor@chello.hu best regards, Viktor Halasz

Dear Viktor, since your country is a member of the EU, it would be a violation of copyright for me to send these to you as they are protected until 1 January 2028. Sorry I cannot help. Daphnis 09:05, 28 March 2009 (EDT)

Rhené-Baton Redirect

Hi Daphnis. I was just about to do it, but I think you got there first :-) — P.davydov 16:15, 30 March 2009 (EDT)

Hi, yes Leonard alerted me to the move tool. Thanks for checking. Did I do it correctly? Daphnis 16:17, 30 March 2009 (EDT)

Yes that's fine, except I think we need the old category page back, as there are a few links still pointing to it (including some external ones, like Wikipedia). I'll re-create it with a redirect to the new page, which should take care of any broken links... — P.davydov

Ah ok. I wasn't sure if the original page should be left or not. Needless to say it's the first time I've attempted this. Daphnis 16:21, 30 March 2009 (EDT)

The move tool is really useful, but as I'm not a sysop I can only do it manually. BTW, I'm hoping that someone will remove the "Leopold" from the "Dvořák, Antonín Leopold" category, as was voted for recently on the Forum. I don't suppose you'd like to give it a go?  :-) — P.davydov 16:27, 30 March 2009 (EDT)

I can give it a shot. Does it involve using the move tool in the same way sans Leopold? Daphnis 16:32, 30 March 2009 (EDT)

I'd presume so, but I've no first-hand experience of using it. Maybe Leonard can advise? — P.davydov 16:57, 30 March 2009 (EDT)

Sibley

Hi Daphnis, You uploaded Children's Carnival by Beach manually. I suppose you know that you can now let IMSLP do this automatically? Just make the work page and then click on 'Upload from Sibley'. Our programmers could this way keep track of the sibley mirroring automatically which is not the case with manual uploads.--Peter talk 04:51, 2 April 2009 (EDT)

Ok, I'll do that in the future. Since this was a personal request being filled by Sibley, I wasn't positive it would work automatically. Daphnis 08:25, 2 April 2009 (EDT)

Ropartz

Just two days after I set up this wishlist and you already uploaded the second symphony ! I hope the day will come when this music take the place it deserves in the repertoire.Thank you Daphnis. --Matthieu 01:29, 30 April 2009 (EDT)

Just as a note on your wishlist additions, it is my goal to have the complete collections of both Magnard and Ropartz up this year (in addition to my on-going Saint-Saens collection). So it may take some time :) Daphnis 11:01, 30 April 2009 (EDT)

Take your time ! 2 symphonies in one week is more than I can read ! Let me mention also how I appreciate the great job you are doing with Saint-Saëns. --Matthieu 15:16, 2 May 2009 (EDT)

help (canteloube)

dear Daphnis, I'm just registered in this site but I can't understand a lot (I'm not good in internet...) so I hope this is a correct way to contact you since I didn't find a link to mail; I saw the vocal score of "Vercingetorix" by Canteloube (I looked for it for years!) ; is not possible download for copyright, do you know how is possible buy it? or how to contact who scanned it? please reply to my mail: albertosig@libero.it kind regards and thank you! alberto

Hello Alberto. Unfortunately, because of site policy at the moment, we are blocking those files not public domain in the USA. We hope to lift this soon. If you'd like to purchase a copy of this vocal score, you should contact publisher Alphonse Leduc Daphnis 12:54, 7 May 2009 (EDT)

Bartók - String Quartet No.3

Hi Daphnis, I can´t understand the page beacause I want to download the string quartet N°3 of Bela Bartok, but its blocked, but string quartet N°1 y N°2 are free, my email is tuliotolkien@hotmail.com and we really really need N°3, could you help us??

Hi, unfortunately we are blocking those files not in the public domain in the US. Quartets 1 & 2 are free in the US but everything else is under copyright. We're not sure when we'll be lifting this ban. Sorry. Daphnis 14:32, 29 May 2009 (EDT)

Sorry it´s me again, but it´s public domain in Canada, I´am in Canada right now, but still I can´t download it, could you help me?, could you send it to me?? my email is tuliotolkien@hotmail.com.

I don't privately email files since I have no way of verifying location. Daphnis 09:04, 8 June 2009 (EDT)

Glazunov Carnaval Overture

I found a beautiful public domain print of Glazunov's Carnaval Overture on Google Book Search. It has some Google watermarks so I did not feel safe to upload it in this state. I was wondering if you could review it to see if it is worthy to be on IMSLP. I also recommend you to listen to this amazing piece if you are willing. Here is the url: [1]

(Jumping in) Not to worry, we've got a copy which is scheduled to be 'cleaned' of all their logos, etc. It should be available fairly soon. Carolus 15:25, 13 June 2009 (EDT)

Massenet Songs

Hey Daphnis -- re: your message on jsnfmn's talk page -- I do indeed have all of his published songs in the format you sent me, all extracted and compiled. I was waiting until I could scan my medium key books as well but in the next few weeks I will go ahead and post what I've got. Sound good?Massenetique 00:42, 19 June 2009 (EDT)

No problem, I was more curious than insistent. Whatever is easier for you. Thanks for getting back to me. Look forward to seeing a complete Massenet chanson collection available soon! Daphnis 08:58, 19 June 2009 (EDT)

Hi Daphnis, I managed to obtain an actual full score on inter-library loan, which will be scanned in a few weeks. You no longer have to worry about the microfilm copy I sent. Thanks, Carolus 01:07, 20 June 2009 (EDT)

That's wonderful! I'm still going to look into the other ones this summer--that's my goal anyway. Daphnis 22:42, 23 June 2009 (EDT)

Rossini

Thanks for these overtures! For the "Five Great Overtures Volume," make sure to add this code: |Amazon={{AmazonLinks|0486408582}} - Dover coll. at the end of the template after you've uploaded. It will add a link to Amazon for the score. Fauré

Thanks Daphnis for wonderful listings; do you happen to know of a duet for flute and alto by Faure? Thanks PaulDoctorwolfie 10:02, 28 June 2009 (EDT)

For what piece? I know of nothing off the top of my head. Daphnis 10:06, 28 June 2009 (EDT)

Molique: Oboe Concerto

Hi, Did Eugen Gugel (1889-1972) actually create the Oboe and Piano reduction, or did he simply edit an already extant reduction? If he's the actual creator of the reduction, we have an obvious copyright issue as you can see. If he's simply the editor, this can be finessed using the 'urtext' rule. Thanks, Carolus 20:37, 28 June 2009 (EDT)

Honestly I don't know. I only found his name when researching details for the site; I guess I never imagined that the arranger would be a problem. Although I have my doubts about when it was first arranged for piano, it may be safest to remove it. Daphnis 21:19, 28 June 2009 (EDT)

I'll do a little research. If there was a reduction published before Gugel's, my bet is that he was simply the editor. Carolus 21:39, 28 June 2009 (EDT)

Mine too, but I couldn't find anything in WorldCat or otherwise to confirm. Daphnis 21:40, 28 June 2009 (EDT)

Holbrooke: Symphony No.3

I didn't notice any sort of copyright notice on this, so I'm marking it as "checked" for now. I don't recall running across any NIEs for Holbrooke, either. I expect that Holbrooke was one of those composers they really didn't want to waste any legal fees on for NIE filings, etc. Music Sales would spend the money for Stravinsky and Poulenc, but other composers in the Chester catalogue like Goosens and Holbrooke were allowed to slide. Carolus 01:07, 1 July 2009 (EDT)

I figured, but didn't want to presume. And on the first page the copyright is listed in "USA and all countries" by Joseph Holbrooke. Daphnis 08:43, 1 July 2009 (EDT)

Kœchlin's catalogue

Hi Daphnis. I've just replied to your question on P.davydov's talk page, but I thought I would copy it here, since my answer is a bit rambling and maybe he won't want this long paragraph taking up so much space on his page. Here it is, best wishes.

Hello Daphnis! Do you mean publication dates of the works? It has composition dates for all of the works, plus the date and location of first performance for many of them. As for publication, it only lists the name of the publisher, with no date, mostly Salabert and Eschig, some of the early works were published at Sénart, and then there are a number of other publisher names appearing here and there. Although the catalogue is printed in book form, I'm not sure if it was ever available for sale. It has no price on it, or any ISBN number. On the reverse of the title page it only says "Le présent catalogue est en dépôt légal chez: Max Eschig & Cie, 48 rue de Rome, 75008 Paris". And on the second to last page it says "Réalisation et impression LACER - RAMBAULT & GUIOT, Dépot légal n°794, 3e trimestre 1975, Paris". As I mentioned above, a friend of mine here in Paris is a friend of Kœchlin's nephew (that's what she calls him although he must be a great nephew). I could ask her to ask him how someone could get a copy of the catalogue. She said he's on something of a mission to promote Kœchlin, so I'm sure he'd be happy to hear someone is taking an interest... It's a pretty interesting document. In the pages before the actual catalogue begins, there is an introduction by Henri Sauguet, then a nine-page article about Kœchlin by Roger Delage, another article about Kœchlin's life written in English by Robert Francis Nicholas Orledge, then twelve pages of extracts from articles about Kœchlin in the press. It also includes a list of didactic works, a list of articles written by Kœchlin published in the press, and a discography listing recordings from the 30's to the 70's. There is also a list of works that for some reason do not appear in the official catalogue (which I've been meaning to add to the "List of Compositions" page - these account for the missing opus numbers)... Anyway if you'd really like to just see the catalogue, when I have the time I could scan it and send you a pdf. The actual list of works, including the out-of-catalogue works, is only about 50 pages. Thanks for your interest! --Siebenkas 10:56, 5 July 2009 (EDT)

Hi again, and yes I was asking about publication dates for specific works. (Also see initial response over at P. Davydov's talk page. Thanks. Daphnis 21:50, 5 July 2009 (EDT)

Wagner

Just...thanks for Das Rheingold - looking forward to the others! You probably deserve another IMSLP Star when you finish this project (like all the complete works weren't enough...!) I'll have to cook something new up..look forward to it.-- Snailey Talk to Me Email me 20:00, 6 July 2009 (EDT)

Well don't hold your breath. Die Walküre is over 600 pages and the other two are over 300. Besides, my French projects come first :) Daphnis 22:33, 6 July 2009 (EDT)
And you have added even more...I'm quite scared...-- Snailey Talk to Me Email me 12:36, 7 July 2009 (EDT)

Coclico

Hi, I've just added the composer page for Adrien Coclico, and I've uploaded a number of pieces on it. Unfortunately, I mislabelled one of these work pages: it reads canon where in fact it ought to be "fuga quarti toni". Could I ask you to do the redirect? I'm afraid I'm not sufficiently proficient in a wiki environment to do it myself. Cordially, Andrévierendeels 06:48, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Done. This is easily done by going to the page in question, clicking 'Move' at the top of the tabs, and entering a new name for the page. Daphnis 14:04, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

I'll try and keep that in mind. Thanks for the move! Cordially, Andrévierendeels 06:25, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Romeo & Juliet

So nice to see it appear! My reference here gives the first publication date as being 1944, by Muzfond (apparently a predecessor of Sovietskii Kompozitor). It mentions the piano reduction as being issued by Muzgiz in 1946. I'm getting this from K. Thompson's Dictionary of 20th Century Composers, which is generally pretty good, but not totally error-free. Let me know if you have a better citation. Carolus 05:03, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

I agree. I foobar'd when tagging and used the publication of the Muzgiz volume and not the first. It'll take me a while but I'll get your other volume up in the coming weeks. Just a pity that after all this no one will actually be able to enjoy it for its captivity....Daphnis 11:28, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Done. Daphnis 13:07, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

New influx of scans

I know this will make me sound like a drip, but I just want to stare openmouthed at your incredible number of scans of Villa-Lobos and Martinu...they are an immensely nice addition to the site. How is it possible to scan so much?...I mean, especially on top of your complete Saint-Saens project, Stravinsky, etc. etc. etc. If anything, you deserve another award- although it probably wouldn't adequately repay you.--KGill 01:07, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Amen! This on top of all of your French projects - the list of your scans is more than endless. And, of course, the Ring! o.O-- Snailey Talk to Me Email me 01:27, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

These Villa-Lobos and Martinů scores I scanned a while back and had them sitting around waiting.
@KGill - The Stravinsky 3 pieces score has been scanned--I'm still waiting on receipt of my parts before I update the archive.
@Perlnerd - Die Walküre Act I now uploaded. Daphnis 02:29, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Oh, wow...I didn't even think of actually prodding you with that, sorry...BTW I added an Amazon Link for the score, make sure to keep it when you add the rest. Thanks!-- Snailey Talk to Me Email me 02:36, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Bachianas Brasileiras No.6, W.392 (Villa-Lobos, Heitor)... question.

Hi Daphnis,
