Hi Generoso! It may be a good idea not to add the category to the pages. One of the reasons why I was ok with your list was because it is contained in itself; it did not require the modification of a huge number of pages, and therefore was easy to manipulate.
It is a good idea not to expand on the current (broken) IMSLP classification system; the category system just was not designed to provide such fine-grained classification. Adding new categories does not solve the fundamental problem, but makes the IMSLP system a little harder to maintain. I've already proposed the coding of a true library catalogue system into IMSLP, but that is going to take some time and dedication, and no one has taken up the challenge yet, unfortunately.
In any case, you don't have to revert the changes (added category tag) you already made to the pages (reverting would have no point), but it may be a good idea to not add more :) Thanks for the idea, but unfortunately it does not work so well with the IMSLP system of current :/ Feel free to add stuff to the list though (preferably in batches so to minimize the number of saves; every save for a large page is quite expensive for the server). Thanks! --Feldmahler 14:43, 19 May 2007 (EDT)
Ok, Think you are probably right. Thanks for your input. Generoso 14:46, 19 May 2007 (EDT)
Hi Generoso. I noticed that you created a category for Cello compositions. I had the idea to do the same thing for Piano Sonatas & Piano Concertos. However, I can't seem to figure out how to go about creating the actual article. Usually when I make up one of these composition lists I just go to edit on the composers page and put in the code {{Bluefatbox|title=See Also|body, etc. However since in this cases there is not just one composer, I don't know how to just create a stand alone article that can then be added to the composition lists category. Therefore, I was hoping you could tell me how you created your Cello Composition List article. Thanks.Mcroskell 02:09, 22 June 2007 (EDT)
Hi Generoso! I think it may be a good idea to not link every page on the cello list to the list itself. The original reason why I recommended using a page instead of a category is to prevent mass changes to work pages, but linking to the list on every page would defeat that purpose. Confining the changes to one page makes manipulation easy in case it should be needed (maybe the page would be superseded by the library catalog system in planning?). Also, it would really have no end if we were to have a page for each instrument (and maybe combinations of instruments?) and link each work page to it... which is another reason why I would suggest not doing mass changes for this. :) --Feldmahler 15:35, 29 June 2007 (EDT)
P.S. You don't have to undo the linking you already did, but it may be a good idea to not link any more pages :) --Feldmahler 15:36, 29 June 2007 (EDT)
Hello Generoso. May I ask you kindly to conform the publisher info field to our guidelines? You can find the standard form of this field in the right box on the file submission page (the most important what you forget is the publication date). And if possible, make a link to the sibley library website, instead of the ugly url. You can find that on your previous submissions which I systematically changed. Thank you very much! Cheers Peter talk 15:02, 18 July 2007 (EDT)
Hi. Sometime in the past I was led to believe that the 3rd Lute suite manuscript (Violoncello 5th) was is Anna Magdalena's hand. Might you please clarify this for me as since discovering your uploaded file I'm now uncertain. Thankyou. R.christie 22:04, 31 July 2007 (EDT) I have just discovered I had been misinformed, the manuscript isn't AMB's, sorry to have needlessly bothered you. R.christie 08:21, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
Hi Generoso, Would you please check for publication info on this title? It's definitely a Henle edition, and I think it might have been published after 1981 - in which case we'll have to delete it. Thanks, Carolus 16:08, 19 August 2007 (EDT)
Hi there. I see that you take the date of publishing from sibley's website for the corresponding files. Sibley mostly gives rough estimates, and sometimes they give wrong dates. It 'd be better to indicate in the publisher field the estimated date in brackets; e.g: Leipzig, C.F. Peters, n.d. [ca.1840]...
I think this style still has to be updated in the submission guidelines.
Thanks,
Peter talk 12:36, 21 September 2007 (EDT)
Hi. There's a copyright mark on the 2L electronic scores you've submitted, so I've asked that this copyright will be reviewed. In the meanwhile, can you wait with submitting them? It would be a pity if all your work would be deleted if they infringe copyright!
Cheers, Peter talk 03:13, 10 October 2007 (EDT)
Quite exciting , isn't it , those composition lists? It all started thanks to your cello page. In the future, IMSLP will have the most complete chamber music compendium available! I'm now just looking for the ideal lay-out - I tried different styles but none gives me satisfaction. --Peter talk 17:47, 4 July 2008 (EDT)
Hi, since Ernest de Munck (1840-1915) was the editor of the part I've set the approximate date to the 1860s, although this doesn't quite match with the table of plate numbers....but on the other side he can't have edited it at the age of four :-) Is the number really 7740? I couldn't read it because it's a bit blurred. Regards, Hobbypianist 14:53, 7 July 2008 (EDT)
Hi Generoso, I very much appreciate your efforts to duplicate the publication info exactly. We have to make an exception when it comes to copyright renewal statements because it tends to confuse and frighten users who are not familiar with the labyrinthine nature of US Copyright into thinking the piece is still protected somehow. I'll add in the misc. notes section that it is a post-1922 printing that was scanned fir this, and that's what should be done when we encounter a "Copyright renewed" statement. One of the things we try to establish in the Publication Info field is the date a particular item was first published - so we can have ironclad proof should someone go after us on one of the numerous cases of copyfraud. Thanks, Carolus 16:49, 26 July 2008 (EDT)
Generoso, thanks for uploading the Cello Sonata; it takes one more Strauss work off my list! This was also a requested score on the wishlist, and I have gone ahead and removed the entry. Thanks again. Daphnis 23:23, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
Hi Generoso, The problem with this is that M. Solc is the arranger of the piano reduction, not just an editor. Otherwise this would fall under the urtext/critical edition rule. Do you happen to have the dates for the arranger - just in case it was a contemporary of Kraft. Otherwise we'll have to delete. Thanks, Carolus 23:11, 29 July 2008 (EDT)
Since he lived until 1963, it would appear his work is still protected in Canada, where IMSLP is hosted. We don't want to delete the valuable work list you constructed, but don't post anything else of his here. We'll probably have to delete the one title. Thanks, Carolus 14:57, 4 August 2008 (EDT)
They're in the USA. Carolus 00:52, 4 October 2008 (EDT)
Hi, I just wanted you to know that this arrangement is taken from the Serenade, K.375 and has been moved there. Carolus 00:55, 4 October 2008 (EDT)
Hi Generoso, On this piece, did Albini arrange the piano accompaniment? Was Franchomme's original for unaccompanied cello? If so, this is still copyright in Canada since Albini died in 1967. Thanks, Carolus 23:14, 5 October 2008 (EDT)
Dear Generoso, Please check the work list of the composer before creating a work page. For example, the Drdla: Serenade No.1 was not for Cello and Piano originally, but for Violin and Piano. The item you posted is a transcription for Cello and Piano by Becker. Thanks, Carolus 17:18, 11 October 2008 (EDT)
Hi Generoso, Unfortunately, I had to delete the lovely Cello and Piano transcription of the above because the arranger of the piano part, Alberto Bachmann (1875-1963), is not PD in Canada. Perhaps you should consider doing one of your own, which we'd be happy to post, of course! IMSLP has a magnificent collection of Cello literature thanks to your efforts.
BTW, when you put in the publisher name, it's best to not use the double brackets unless there is a page already set up for the publisher in question. We'll eventually have pages for them all, but that is a long term priority. Right now, we're building the collection so that all of the major works can be found here. Thanks, Carolus 14:03, 12 October 2008 (EDT)
The piano part doesn't contain page 7, but two pages 8. But thanks for uploading ! - Ferruccio
Hi Generoso, just wanted to let you know that something happened with page 5. Hobbypianist 11:59, 18 October 2008 (EDT)
Hi Generoso, you'll get a much better resolution if you choose Format 'pdf' instead of 'image'. Then push the printer symbol below to add the page to the queue. To create the pdf I use for example PDFcreator. Regards, Hobbypianist 14:40, 15 November 2008 (EST)
Hi, the cello concerto No.1 you posted is the international music co. edition edited by Rostropovich and probably (c). --Peter talk 11:59, 22 December 2008 (EST)
Hi Generoso,
may I suggest that when you make new works pages for Berlioz using the Holoman catalogue, put a space between the letter H and the number, e.g. H 36
This will assist me later when I clean up the Berlioz pages. Also, the correct name should be Category:Berlioz, Hector - one of the admins will be changing this shortly :)
Regards, Philip Legge ♇ @ © talk 19:23, 4 January 2009 (EST)
Hi Generoso,
I've had a look at the cello part you've uploaded for this, and yes it is a bit of a mess (clearly compiled from numerous handwritten or typeset parts). However, I am not sure a precedent should be set by splitting it apart into 10 separate mini-parts. The page is too long as it currently is (3 dozen different files!) and having a dozen separate parts for each of the twelve orchestral songs probably will not help. Perhaps ask a question over at the forums about what should be done here. I think you should defer to the collective wisdom that is occasionally on tap over there :)
Lastly, page 22 has Das irdische Leben, the 2nd half of cellos: this should be moved earlier in the file to go with the other half of the divided cellos, after page 10. Also, the Miscellaneous Notes would ideally give a listing of which songs are represented in the part. Hmm.
Regards, Philip Legge ♇ @ © talk 16:14, 7 January 2009 (EST)
Thank you so much for all of these parts! As a cellist, I can really appreciate these. I have one small request: could you please, after uploading the file, move them to the "Orchestral Parts" heading? This would save a lot of time. You can also just name them "violoncello part"; no need for redundancy. Thanks!-- Snailey Yell at me Email me 17:40, 6 February 2009 (EST)
Hi Generoso. I've been spending a bit of time recently trying to standardise the information on IMSLP, and there's one point that you're probably better qualified to help with than anyone else here... At the moment the terms "Cello" and "Violoncello" seem to be used erratically on some pages. Do you think we need to use just one of the words and stick to it, and if so, which should it be? Sometimes the same thing happens with "Bass" and "Double Bass". Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have P.davydov 18:15, 6 February 2009 (EST)
It's good of you to respond so quickly, and I understand where you're coming from. Thanks also for posting so many cello parts on the Tchaikovsky pages! P.davydov 19:00, 6 February 2009 (EST)
Hey Generoso, thanks so much for all your contributions! Just wondering if you happened to be in posession of any of the Vivaldi cello concertos. They're such great pieces and deserve to be played! Thanks.
In my opinion, the vivaldi cello sonatas are better than the concerti. We have none. Do you, by any chance, have any?-- Snailey Yell at me Email me 19:50, 9 February 2009 (EST)
Thank you so much for uploading all the cello parts to great orchestral pieces! —Mathcello 02:27, 22 February 2009 (EST)
Would you happen to have the scores (preferably parts too) for these? The current IMSLP edition is, suffice to say, unprintable.-- Snailey Yell at me Email me 20:17, 4 March 2009 (EST)
Hey its great to have so many cello parts for great orchestral music. thanks heaps for that.
I just had one question. Ive been looking everywhere for cello parts for stravinsky orchestral pieces, particularly 'The Rite of Spring'. I was wondering, seeing as you seem to have such a collection, if you had a copy of any Stravinsky music.
I know Stravinsky isn't public domain anywhere yet but maybe if you have scanned them you could email them to me directly. That would be really awesome. If its not possible, thanks anyway...youve already uploaded enough to keep me entertained for a long time.
thanks
Thank you for post the Roman Stabat Mater. I'm quite interested in this work for a schoolar project. Can we talk about this work? please email me to: numendes@gmail.com Thank you very much
If you happen to have any of these works, it'd be a great addition! Thanks for all your contribution work!
I have just uploaded the original of this (Bartholff Senff, plate 897). It looks a very different edition from the first one on the page you uploaded (Simrock, plate 20897) - not even the same movements! However you suggested the latter was a reengraving of the former. It must have been based on something else?
Thanks for the G number of the earlier Boccherini sonata I uploaded.
At first, thank you for uploading such a rare and beautiful thing. I tried to download it about half a year ago, but i was told that this file is not downloadable due to copyright check, with the "b" status on it. same thing happened today as i tried to reach this file for six month. there is tb status for now, and it really made me upset. i really need this score, so i decided to contact you and ask if you are able to make this file accessible. Thank you.

Kalliwoda, Aug 4, 2009, 21:30 CET
Hi, and I'm glad that you've found all this Ysaÿe...quite nice...and the rest of the collection is good too. However, the Template "Flat" only works with two curly brackets ({). Thanks, -- Snailey Talk to Me Email me 14:37, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Hallo Generoso,
bitte sei doch so generös und stelle auch die anderen beiden Parts der Schilflieder op.28 von Klughardt auf IMSLP.
Hello Generoso,
I have noticed that because in the US Ysaye's 6 Solo Violin Sonatas op. 27 is not in public domain, the rest of the world can't have access to it.
I live in Brazil, and here this work is in public domain for some years. The law here for music copyright is simple: on January 1st just after the 70th anniversary of death, everything falls in public domain. As Ysaye died on 1931, it is public domain since January 1, 2002.
Is it possible to publish this work in other website, or send me by e-mail?
Thanks, Alvaro Henrique alvaroguitar -@- gmail.com
Generoso! I am requesting from you again because you are an amazing and reliable resource. Have you any Popper pieces that aren't already on the site? Thanks! pnuttercello "at" yahoo.com
Generoso, is there some specific reason why you wanted to submit duplicates of the Ravel duo? Do the bowings hold some special significance? Since they really aren't any higher quality than the ones present (and still contain bowings, which I would tend to want to remove before submission), I would lean towards deleting one of the two duplicates. Daphnis 16:13, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
Hi, He died in 1968, so it's not free in Canada. I'll have to delete shortly. That's one of the glitches in out attempt to mirror Sibley - they're strictly under USA law, while we are sort of under both Canada and USA. BTW, when you add something from Sibley, be sure to include the little template {{SibleyProject}} in the Misc. Comments field. I expect you're adding these manually instead of using the little Sibley Upload tool, which generates the template automatically. Thanks, as always, for your outstanding uploads! Hi, just wanted to let you know that musicsack lists a composer Burger, Max (b.1856 d.1917). Maybe it's that one? Where did you get the death date 1910? Hobbypianist 16:27, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
I saw you uploaded some Cello concertos by Leo recently (I was about to upload them in the near future, too ;-)). However you gave as source just Internet culturale. Don't you think it would be better to specify the library (in this case: Biblioteca del Conservatorio di musica S. Pietro a Majella - Napoli), as Internet culturale is just a way to access a lot of different italien online libraries? --BoccaccioTalk Email 06:46, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
The 1706 date and Bologna birth ascribed in the score, though possibly inaccurate, suggest Giovanni Battista Martini (born in 1706 in Bologna) rather than Sammartini (born around 1701, probably not in Bologna). What do you think? Eric 07:59, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Worse comes to worst, I think all of G-B Sammartini's works have all been catalogued- it could be checked whether or not the cello sonata here attributed to him is in fact by him (in principle; not sure where the nearest copy of that catalogue is.) I'm not sure Padre Martini's works have, though :) Eric 16:00, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Do you have any more information about this trio?? Is it even by Van Beethoven ? --Peter talk 10:00, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi Generoso, thank you for this contribution. I made a question on its talk page but then I thought I should have tried to contact you first. Anyway that is also a general question open to anyone to answer, because in fact I don't know how these situations are dealt with here at IMSLP. If you'd like to comment, please do so on that page. Hi Generoso! While I am willing to let the Trinkaus stay on the site because there's only a year to go before he's PD in Canada, I felt I had to take down the Boellmann edited by Malkin, since there are unfortunately 10 more years to go. Even though the file would be blocked from downloading, I don't feel that it's really good practice to keep it on the site. (I know that there are a few other files like that, but in general it's good to keep their number to a minimum.) Sorry, KGill talk email 23:33, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
