Figaro
Dear Homerdundas,
I'm a student in china. Right now I am learning my major course which need to perform the classic opera--the Marriage of Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro). Thus I wishfully need the sheet music of this opera to help me. But the speed of my internet is so poor that I couldn't download the files from this website. Could you please send the PDF files of Le nozze di Figaro to me by E-mail. My e-mail: tianxiang124@126.com . Thank you!
- Hello!
- I don't think that email is faster. I will try to send you the first few files. If that works, tell me and then I will continue to send more.
- --Homerdundas 16:26, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Dear Homerdundas, Thank you for your reply. I have received the e-mail, and download the files. I can open it clearly. It's realy important to me. Because my e-mail has not been verified, I couldn't make sure my reply whether deliver to you. However, I can receive your email. Please send the rest of " Le nozze di Figaro". Thank you for your help!
German spelling
Hallo homerdundas, Happy Christmas!
I just noticed your recent uploads, because they all seemed to be german titles but made no sense at all - some of it is the "medieval" german spelling, but then there are some essential letters you left out in the titles. Nothing as funny as "Schlittenfahrt" without the "l" ad the "h", but nevertheless very confusing. Could you proofread future uploads a second time???
I moved the two pages to correct titles:
"Was trag ich auf den händen? Ein gleßlein mit külem wein" (modern spelling would be "Was trag ich auf den Händen? Ein Gläslein mit kühlem Wein")
"Wo sol ich mich hinkehren, ich armes brüderlein" (modern spelling would be "Wo soll ich mich hinkehren, ich armes Brüderlein").
--Kalliwoda 22:51, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- I have always used the original titles, do we have a policy on titles? I will continue to use the originals, as I don't know enought german to translate. I have never uploaded a work called Schlittenfahrt.
- of cause, use the original titles, but use the the same spelling as in the work itself ("den händen", nicht "de hende"; "hinkehren", nicht "hinkeren"), that was the reason of my post. Sorry for the confusion about "Schlittenfahrt", that was a humorous reference to a recent but unrelated forum post by carolus http://imslpforums.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4372--Kalliwoda 00:11, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
- Actually the SATB version of this work has the spelling "der hende" - so I guess it is inconsistent, between the two settings. I did forget the 'h' in hinkehren. I'll try to be careful.
Tafelmusik
Hallo homerdundas,
for the Tafelmusik exists also a separate page, which has the entire volumes scanned by BSB. Your single uploads are much easier to use, but the pages should be linked. On the pages you created I have done it already - hope you don't mind--Kalliwoda 17:41, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Topff -> Topf
Hi Homerdundas. Just to let you know that the category you created for Johann Topf(f) was moved to 'Topf' in accordance with our naming guidelines. Cheers, KGill talk email 01:52, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Warlock
Oughtn't this be "Heseltine"?-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 18:33, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, you are right - my wife (librarian) says that library of congress files under the real name, with a cross reference. Can we do that?
Interesting idea—I'll talk to P.Davydov-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 22:02, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- Incidentally, as far as I can tell LC only lists him under Warlock, giving Heseltine as an alternate name. I have therefore kept the original category. Cheers, KGill talk email 22:07, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- I read something in the last few days about changes to the methods that LC use to deal with pseudonyms, but unfortunately the information is on the LC website, and that's down for a revamp this weekend. But IIRC the gist is that it would come under Warlock, with a cross-reference from Heseltine — P.davydov 22:12, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- Whichever of PW/PH’s identities is chosen, would the link for the other name directly appear in the Category:Composers, or would it be suppressed? If the link doesn’t appear, then I can guarantee the name that people will be looking for in that category is Warlock, not Heseltine. Cheers Philip Legge @ © talk 23:42, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- Bump… Philip Legge @ © talk 04:53, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Bump indeed.-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 21:35, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
- The LC catalogue is back up, and confirms he's only listed under Warlock. The name Philip Heseltine appears as an alternate name on Warlock's category page on IMSLP, which comes up in the list of hits for "Heseltine" using the search box. It would be very unusual to create an empty category for "Heseltine, Philip" just so he appears in the alphabetical list of composers, but a redirect could be created from that name to point to the Warlock category — P.davydov 23:19, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
Hammerschmidt Dialogi page missing
hello,
i recently downloaded the Hammerschmidt dialogi for a friend, and now he's working on it and he tells me that a page is missing in the original pdf file. i checked and it's true: for the number twenty (XX) , so that's the last of the files) page 132 is missing; now he can't study the piece.
is there anything you can do? is it possible for you to scan the missing page?
i'd very much like to hear for my friend's sake.
thank you for the upload anyway, it's a wonderful find!
greetings,
Pieter
- Hello Pieter!
- Thank you for telling me about the missing page. I have uploaded a new version of the file, with the page (132) that was missing. It is ready for downloading.
- Homer.
copyright renewal search
Hallo,
If you are searching the copyright records again, could you have a look at Max Brauer "Pan". The score is TB, since published posthumously in 1934, but Breitkopf may not have renewed copyright, since they lost the manuscript parts in WW II. Have typeset parts to contribute, if it is unblocked--Kalliwoda 08:14, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- It will be a while, but yes, I will add it to the list.--Homerdundas 12:01, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Brauer Pan
Hello Homerdundas,
Just noticed you checked the renewal records for this work and they had not been renewed, as might be expected for title that was"Kriegsverlust". Thank you very much!--Kalliwoda 23:15, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
Schreker
Hi, I am thrilled to find Schreker on IMSLP. The files for Der Ferne Klang work, except for the final part - it's a blank page. Could you please fix? And keep the Schreker files coming... Thank you! mhurshell, Sept 01'11
- Hmmm..... I assume you mean Act 3. I have downloaded it and don't have a problem. Last page is 315. Is your pdf viewer up-to-date? --Homerdundas 15:13, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
Pierpont Morgan
well, that is good news- they have some important manuscripts there I know (eg Stanford 2nd violin concerto in vn/pf reduction) that are available only a few other places... Thanks! Eric 15:11, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Chaminade part
I'm just curious as to why you'd want to create a part that has only been cropped to fit on letter? Did you know you can choose in Acrobat (and most other PDF viewers) when printing to select 'Fit to paper'? This works very well with both up and downsizing. Daphnis 20:34, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Hi Daphnis...
I always remove surrounding white space from my scores, so that it can be largest on whatever size of paper - or display it is used with. I always leave .25" (.7cm) margin when I select a paper size (letter or A4). Here is the logical equation...
- No fitting - just the cropped music:
- Computer monitor
- hard to read, edges merge to edge of screen (clefs, titles, final bar line, etc)
- Paper
- - select fit to paper
- best for all paper sizes as you suggest
- - no fit to paper
- loose all edges including clefs, last line, etc. - must call tech support to figure out 'fit to paper' option
- Fit to a paper size as I have done:
- Computer monitor
- always easy to read, with narrow white border
- Paper
- - select fit to paper
- Ok, maybe just a bit smaller than it really has to be
- - no fit to paper
- perfect for most printers
What we really need is an option in the PDF viewer that ignores the specified paper size, and leaves an easy to read border on screen, and fills maximum area on paper.--Homerdundas 17:29, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I quite follow you here. To my knowledge, Acrobat will take into consideration blank margin space and adjust as necessary when choosing "fit to page". I don't know the details of this, but in any case, I don't really see a terribly useful need to remove margins unless they are outlandish like some French vocal scores are. In the case of the latter, I run these images through a processing script that standardizes the margins all around and centers the "data" accordingly. Daphnis 19:54, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- I've made a file without margins .. try viewing and printing this in Adobe with various options and you will see what I mean.
nomargin file
- Yes, I understand how irksome lack of all margins is. It's worse on screen than printed out, that's for sure. I just didn't understand why you went to the minor trouble to tweak the Concertino flute part for letter when 1.) it was close to those dimensions to begin with and 2.) the printout looks virtually identical when scaled to fit letter. In any case, it's not an issue, I've just never seen anyone go to that trouble for such small gains. Best, Daphnis 21:10, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- I have always tried to get maximum size onto the paper. I have several friends with visual problems of various kinds, and for myself - I've received printouts made by others from this site, that were really too small on the paper. These were orchestral works probably taken from original 10-1/2" pages - with wide margins - reproduced onto letter size. I found this a real nuisance. The historical editions I am uploading, like the file I used as an example, were larger than letter or A4 size to begin with - so, again, I try to do the best I can.
Taglietti
Hi Homerdundas. Just to let you know that he's been moved to Taglietti, Giulio as according to more than one national library, that's the correct spelling of his name (not Giulo). Cheers, KGill talk email 23:29, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
Hi, If Acts 3, 4 and the Nachspiel were arranged by Joseph Rosenstock (1895–1985) - which appears to be the case, they are not PD in Canada - but only the USA. I'll have to delete those particular files. You can upload them again to the USA server in a while once the interface for doing that is up, or even send the files to one of the admins like KGill or Daphnis who has access to that server (I do not, for the time being). How very odd that there would be three arrangers involved in the production of a vocal score. Carolus 05:36, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Les maitres musiciens de la Renaissance Francaise
Hello, Homerdundas! Do we have someone rich here at this site? Then we could have the complete edition. Regards from --Ralph Theo Misch 00:37, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- The series is available for a cheaper price here:
- (Google books)
- However, it requires a proxy server in the United States for access to the pdf files. (I can't access directly from Canada -- why???) I will continue uploading from my present source for the time being, but I will add the Google Scans as well, because they contain all of the analytical text with the scores.
- I don't think IMSLP has any rich users! --Homerdundas 00:55, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
After all, if you're rich, you buy sheet music. :)-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 01:30, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- There is some truth in it ;-) --Ralph Theo Misch 23:06, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Dear Homerdundas, at the most I can get a preview of a few pages of some of those books. A proxy server could help? I'll investigate.
Three volumes are published at archive.org. But they are only a bibliographical overview with incipits. Best wishes --Ralph Theo Misch 23:23, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hello Ralph, try this...
- 1.google search for:
- United States proxy server
- this should get you many hits - one of which is a big big index of proxy servers in the usa.
- Select one of the proxy servers. These are usually supported by advertising - so click past the pop-up windows and messages (or buy some cars, vacations...). You should get something to key in a URL
- 2.in another browser window (or tab) google search for the Maîtres Musiciens ...
- 3.copy the browser address, paste it into the URL space in the proxy server window.
- 4.Voila!
- I don't know why Google restricts these to the USA. It doesn't make sense for Google to be policing the copyright - (and getting it wrong). It may be something to do with the legal conflicts regarding their book scanning projects, which have not yet been resolved.
- How did you do?? Post here your news........... --Homerdundas 04:01, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Hi Homerdundas, I can't believe it - it works! Many, many thanks for your (entertaining :)) instructions!! That offers completely new possibilities! Cheers --Ralph Theo Misch 09:43, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
„Publikation älterer praktischer und theoretischer Musik-Werke“
Dear Homerdundas,
I have seen, that you are working on „Publikation älterer praktischer und theoretischer Musik-Werke“, and I would like to ask you, if you can scan each volume complete, including the editorial remarks. These are often very helpful for both, musicologists and musicians, and if the work is once done, it's done forever.
By the way, I've started a list with links on Wikisource.
I hope you don't mind for the suggestions, Sincerly yours --Konrad Stein 10:27, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not homerdundas, but I can tell you that he does not actually scan these, so his source might not scan the editorial remarks. Cheers-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 14:19, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hello Konrad, thank you for your suggestions! Snailey is right, unfortunately I have no easy access to the editorial remarks. I would have to scan the printed volume just like anyone else. If you have a specific volume you are interested in, I can go to the library and scan it, but it won't be any time soon. I have a list of missing or badly scanned pages that I will be rescanning some time in the future - I would be happy to add the items you are interested in.--Homerdundas 13:29, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
- So, I understand, you do not have easy access to the scores. If you have an oppurtunity to face them, I feel the forewords and descritpion of the sources of Vecchi L'Amfiparnaso and Caccini Euridice might be interesting. Thanks for your kindness and greetings, Yours --Konrad Stein 11:37, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
