Wikipedia links

Hi. I'd like to ask about Wikipedia links here. I usually try to add also link to English Wikipedia biography if available, even if there already is a biography link. In such case I try to estimate the information value of the two articles and correspondingly put the Wikipedia biography link after or before. Is this practice OK? --Tomaxer 21:53, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Yes, it's fine - it's always good if we have more than one biography link (at least, if all of them are useful in some way). If both of them are from Wikipedia, though (i.e. two different languages), it's best to use the iflang construction (instead of having two separate links). Cheers, KGill talk email 22:05, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

I see you've noticed  :-) I was interrupted before I could get back to you, so apologies if it seemed like I was being off-hand — P.davydov 17:28, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

It's quite all right. Thank you! KGill talk email 17:28, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

  • And out of curiosity, although I am not an established user here, I've been wondering why there is not a Template:Welcome, like Wikinews'. --Mikemoral 22:04, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
There is Template:MsgWelcome, but it's rarely used for some reason. I don't know why, it's just not standard practice anymore to use it... KGill talk email 22:12, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
  • Ah, I was just wondering is all. On Wikimedia projects, I usually read them so I can find the local policies. --Mikemoral 22:14, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Most of the site policies are just in the Contributor Portal (in the sidebar). We tried a few months ago to reduce the required reading for new contributors to just IMSLP:Quick Guide to Score Submission and IMSLP:Copyright Made Simple. KGill talk email 22:18, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

  • Yeah, when I first contributed, I read those. the most useful was the score submission guide; I already knew copyright from the Wikimedia Commons. --Mikemoral 22:30, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

2 Spiritual Songs, Op.105 (Reger, Max)

Dear KGill, thanks for your work on it! I've found the publisher's info at worldcat [1] and hope it's correct. The plate no. of the reprint from ca. 1936 is F.E.C.L. 6135. Best regards --Ralph Theo Misch 22:44, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Ah, so it is the reprint! Thanks. KGill talk email 22:46, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Musica Divina/ Proske

Hi KGill, I have got all the books of that publication and all are dated at the front cover. Of course, one cannot see it on (at?) every file. May be you're right, but I only want to say this :) --Ralph Theo Misch 23:25, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Oh, you're referring to the fact that I changed it to 'n.d.'? Wasn't aware that they were in fact dated (I confirmed the date using WorldCat); I'll change it back. Thanks. KGill talk email 23:28, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

The front cover of Sectio II. is shown at my user page. I would like to ask you for that edition and the way of uploading it here in near future... --Ralph Theo Misch 23:35, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

P.S.: My English! :( I hope you understand what I mean...
Apologies, but I'm afraid I don't understand exactly what you mean. You're already uploading that edition?... KGill talk email 00:02, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Please excuse me! It's rather late here in Germany (2.00 in the night) - I'll try to explane tomorrow. Thanks! --Ralph Theo Misch 00:10, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

I'll better email you. --Ralph Theo Misch 11:53, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi KGill, Thanks - I couldn't find him. :-) --Ralph Theo Misch 00:52, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

I just used MusicSack. I find that it's a pretty comprehensive source for dates, and can be especially useful for the more obscure names. KGill talk email 00:54, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Cadenza for Mozart's Piano Concerto No.26, K.537 (Thuille, Ludwig)

Hello KGill, do you think that a remark at Mozart's work page would be useful? There already exists the headline Cadenzas. --Ralph Theo Misch 23:20, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Yes, that makes sense; thanks for reminding me. Your file is now also linked to from this page. KGill talk email 23:24, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

You are extremely quick! Thanks! --Ralph Theo Misch 23:27, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Deletion

Why did you delete my work?

I'm not KGill, but his reason looks good: only contains a duplicated file-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 02:20, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Exactly. I think you may have accidentally uploaded the wrong file - the page I deleted contained the exact same thing, under a different title. KGill talk email 11:49, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Condom

Hi Kgill I've seen you managed new composers i've created. So I'm proud to announce you I've exhume a (certainly) great ignored genius of the XX century: Mr Condom! His name wasn't an obstacle for him to create (but may be to procreate...). I let you handle him with as much tact and fingering as the others. I haven't found any date about him. Squin 21 April 2010

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any information on him either. As far as I can tell, he was mainly active in the first decade of the 20th century (BNF seemed to indicate that all of his publications were around 1900), so I don't think it's likely that there will be copyright problems. Baroque French Composers

Dear Kgill I'm extracting not-well-known frenchs composers's scores from a Philidor compilation "de vieux airs" made for king's weddings and others ceremonys. I'll upload them soon may be today if i has time. Attributions are not always clear and it takes me time. Have you some to manage them, if so I give you the list with BNF indications, may be you'll found more infos: Saint-Amant, Monsieur de (16..?-16.. ). (??I know there was a famous chess player having this name at this time, he was the Philidor'son chess champion teacher) Verdier, Robert (15..?-16.. ). (or Verdié..his score marked from 1680) Constantin, Louis (1585-1657). Chancy, François de (1600?-1656). La Voix, Monsieur de (16..?-16..). Mazuel, Michel (1603-1676). (or also Mazuelle noted on score) Lavallez, Monsieur de (16..?-16.. ; compositeur, auteur)(also La Vallez noted on score) La Pierre, Monsieur de (16..-16..). Le Page, Monsieur (16..?-16.. ). Belleville, Jacques de (15..?-164.?). (also Belville noted on score) Lazarin (16..?-1653). Compositeur Verpré, Monsieur de (15..?-16..). Dumanoire, Monsieur (?-16..)(his score marked from 1648) Others founded made me no problems : Coprints for Louis Couperin, Degrignis for nicolas de Grigny, ... Thanks Squin Paris, 28 April 2010 ...// I see now that De Grignis or Degrignis is not De Grigny.. the piece was made before his birth! 1660..

I am having trouble finding dates for a lot of them...you have unearthed a plethora of obscurities ;-) I'll work on it more tomorrow, as I have pretty much no time right now... KGill talk email 01:13, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Sorry for work i give to you, i'll don't want making me ennemys but i upload them at present with a real frenzy... new ones : Jean Baptiste Morin, Lacroix, Jean Cambefort, Chauvigny, Beauchant, Desmatins... By Curiosity, it seem to me that in order Germany, France and Italia are firsts nations on Imslp for the number of composers (surprise: Austria is very far (but probably not for number of genius)) Squin Paris, 29 April 2010

Well, I got through them all, although I'm not sure how much good I did most of them...a disappointingly high proportion of my edits consisted of marking it for more information needed :-) KGill talk email 20:58, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Submission dates

Hi KGill, I'm not too lazy to integrate new files myself. But everytime I've done it the submission dates were equalized. So I waited for learning from you. Regards from --Ralph Theo Misch 00:29, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

The principle is really pretty simple - the code 'Date Submitted=' sets the date for all submissions, while 'Date Submitted 2=' (etc.) sets it only for one file. This is very handy if you have a bunch of files all submitted at the same time, and one later exception (I can't tell you how many times this happened in the Orchestra Parts Project), since you only need two lines of code (i.e. not a separate one for each file). KGill talk email 00:33, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

I'll try it tomorrow. For Landré and Thuille there are some files left. Thanks a lot! --Ralph Theo Misch 00:39, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

I've tried it: everytime great chaos. The first symptoms of dementia? --Ralph Theo Misch 23:06, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Hmm...take a look at the dates section of Pieces for Harmonium (Landré, Willem):

|Date Submitted=2010/5/1
|Date Submitted 4=2010/5/2
|Date Submitted 5=2010/5/2
|Date Submitted 6=2010/5/2
|Date Submitted 7=2010/5/3
|Date Submitted 8=2010/5/3
|Date Submitted 9=2010/5/3
|Date Submitted 10=2010/5/4
|Date Submitted 11=2010/5/4

The dates are specified in separate lines for files 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. The first line doesn't have a number after it; therefore, whatever date is specified by it will be the date for any file that doesn't have its own line specifying a date (i.e. files 1, 2, and 3). If someone added another file to the file entry, but didn't also add 'Date Submitted 12=', then file 12 would have the same date as files 1, 2, and 3. Am I making more sense? KGill talk email 23:47, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

I think everything should be clear. But I shouldn't try such things always late in the night (now: 1:44 in Germany). Thanks a lot again!! --Ralph Theo Misch 23:54, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
You're welcome :-) KGill talk email 23:54, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

There lived and still live many Hans Heinrichs in Germany, but I couldn't find out the dates of 'our' Hans - sorry for the untidy research! I don't know, if I can sleep tonight without a valid contribution for this day :-) All the best! --Ralph Theo Misch 22:31, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Suite No.1, Op.43 (Tchaikovsky, Pyotr Ilyich)

Hi! Thank you so much for helping because I'm quite lost! :s I have uploaded the files again, this time through the link you gave me at the bottom of the page... Is it correct? --Bryan P. C. C. 23:35, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Looks perfectly fine. Thanks for the uploads! KGill talk email 23:37, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

5 Lieder, Op.49 (Brahms, Johannes)

Hi KGill, I know, the files are not in the right sequence. But the German/English version of No.1 (contrib. by Aldona) was tagged at Arrangements and Transcriptions. Regards from --Ralph Theo Misch 19:31, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

It's OK; the only thing I was worried about was identifying the time period of the edition itself (I don't have much time right now). KGill talk email 19:36, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
There's a notice on the ad page (below) of #64045: Propagandabüro (propaganda office) Berlin. Probably about 1929, pretty sure not after 1945. --Ralph Theo Misch 19:51, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Dubuisson, Beauchamp, mademoiselle Laurent

Dear Kgill, I add this composer today and let you see informations about him.. I found that, may be, Dubuisson is just the avatar of Jean Lacquemant (1622 or 23, 1680). Scores are in the Philidor collection. Squin 18 May 2010

You are quite correct - I found more than one source confirming that they are in fact the same person. KGill talk email 22:11, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

For Pierre Beauchamp, I've found 4 orthographs on manuscripts : Beauchant Bauchant Beauchamp Beauchamps, I don't know witch one is the most usual. Well-known as maître de ballet (dance master)Squin I will also upload a great score from a certain "Mademoiselle Laurent" or Laurant .. I let you see... (B.Versailles don't say anything about her) Squin 19 May 2010

OK, I've added template links to the other music scores websites page as a reference - we're clearly going to have quite a few of these eventually (Right now, we've got LOC, BSB, DKB, and BNF, as well as, of course, Sibley - I can see SLUB perhaps coming up)-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 02:24, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

You're right, probably we'll end up with links for, say, Biblioteque Toulouse, Anna Amalia Bibliotek, maybe Variations, even Henselt Library (I know they don't scan their own stuff, but still?). Do you think we should just jump the gun and create as many templates as we can think of for the large collections? KGill talk email 02:29, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm...maybe even creating the templates and not acting on them (i.e. correcting them at a steady pace along with other stuff instead of actively searching) might be good. However, we do not want to make templates for everthing - a short list, perhaps

  • SLUB
  • Anna Amalia
  • Toulouse
  • Mutopia (on principle more than utility :)
  • No Variations, it's inactive. Same with bh2000. The whole point is consistency and time-saving - and a template wouldn't do either in these cases
  • No Henselt, they don't scan. Same with Sheetmusicfox

The question is one of timing.-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 02:33, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Bump. Also, the FTP has bunches of new stuff :)-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 03:39, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

OK, if we're in agreement then I guess I'll go ahead and create templates for the first 3 you listed (I'm not sure how we would use a link to Mutopia [at least in the 'Scanner' field], since don't we always credit the original typesetter?). KGill talk email 13:19, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Template:SLUB, Template:BT, Template:AAB. KGill talk email 13:25, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Great. For Mutopia, we could have an input be the typesetter's name-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 13:56, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Greetings KGill, Any particular reason for deleting the cello part in the Transcription for Cello and Piano? Generoso 05:50, 31 May 2010 (UTC) Or did I by mistake upload two of the same part?
