The duo sonatas were all mature works, from Viola Sonata No.1 in F major (1919) when the composer was already 49 years old, then the Violin Sonatas No. 1(1929) , No. 2 (1932) and Viola Sonata No.2, to the late Cello Sonata No. 1 (1940), Violin Sonata No. 3 (1940) and finally Cello Sonata No. 2 (1945).
