It seems from the contemporary, late 18th-century (1766-1790s?) abschrift in the possession of the Landesbibliothek Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Musikaliensammlung, Schwerin, that string quartet + continuo (or contrabass?) may have been acceptable accompaniment as well.
