English-born pianist and organist, settled in U.S. Philadelphia ca.1835. [1][2][3]
Organist and choir leader at the Philadelphia Epiphany Church. [4]
Prolific composer/arranger: piano dance music, songs, opera pot-pourris, and some church music.
Some sources (e.g. Hathi) identify this composer as Charles W. Jarvis, or Charles Wesley Jarvis, and/or dated 1809-1871, but his numerous scores just mention a single first name (Charles, C., Ch., Chas, etc.); his production stops ca.1855, and the cover of his American Cousin Polka[5], published in Philiadelphia 1858, reads "composed by the late Charles Jarvis".
His son, Charles H. Jarvis (1837-1895), also became a well known concert pianist, teacher and concert organizer in Philadelphia. [6]
