He studied organ at the Royal Academy of Music. In 1967 he was appointed Assistant Music Master at Oundle School. He returned to the Academy in 1973 where he combined administrative work with some teaching: Sight Singing, Choral Conducting and Keyboard Skills. During this period he was organist at St. Jude-on-the-Hill in north London. Here, he presented many large choral and orchestral concerts drawing on Students from the Academy.
In 1976, he started a Bach Cantata Series of Concerts in the City, giving rare experience of this wonderful music to his students. In 1982, he was invited to start a series of Bach Cantatas placing them in their correct setting within a Lutheran Service at St. Anne and St. Agnes, also in the City. In 1987, he was appointed Cantor of the Church, and together with his Lecosaldi Ensemble went on to perform all the extant Bach Cantatas.
