After dabbling in compositional ideas as a music student, Rick Robinson began composing suddenly and earnestly 18 years later, while a member musician of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO). Here he launched the two outreach ensembles of DSO musicians under the CutTime® brand; CutTime Players (1994) and CutTime Simfonica® (2010). Robinson reduced Simfonica to a string quartet and eventually added a drummer to entertain and educate ("edutain") in bars, clubs, homes, street festivals and artist collectives as part of the Classical Revolution Detroit series (2010-2019). He resigned from DSO at the end of 2012 and began working with orchestras, music schools, music festivals and musicians across the United States to model new ways classical music could attract, serve and relax new audiences, esp. those who avoid anything "classical."
