Navigation etc.
In March of 2006 the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) premiered my "accidental" composition 'ESSAY No. 1 (After Sibelius)'. I wondered then if I couldn't compose more "deliberately" and immediately began a work that could launch another outreach ensemble (after CutTime Players) from within the DSO (since I was a member). I settled on a string sextet and the autobiographical theme of how I met my fiance at the time. Over five movements the music is meant to suggest the initial five stages of any romance (initial dates, sex and infatuation, fun and games, merging and cathexis, and proposal-arguments-wedding). Coincidentally enough, I finished the first draft on Valentine's Day! I was also keen to prove that a romantic-style composition could express a modern adventure. Live recordings of each movement can be heard at my SoundCloud page.
