Founder of the Walenn String Quartet (1903-1914) with Herbert Kinze (violin), James Lockyer (later Lionel Tertis) (viola), and his brother Herbert (cello).
In the 1920s and 30s he was leader of the Conservatorium String Quartet at the New South Wales State Conservatorium of Music (
picture) in Sydney, with Lionel Lawson (violin),
Alfred Hill (viola) and Gladstone Bell (cello).
