URTEXT EDITION

This is an urtext/critical/scholarly/scientific edition (or a simple re-engraving). Any commentary or critical apparatus, if protected by copyright, should not be included in the scan(s) available here.

In Canada, new editions/re-engravings of public domain works (when not including new original material) should be in the public domain due to failing to meet the threshold of originality. In most European Union countries, these editions (except new original material) are generally protected for no more than 25 years from publication (30 years in Poland), and only if the edition is published after the copyrights of the original creator(s) have expired. In the United States, copyright can only apply to new creative work, and the re-engraving of a public domain piece (not including new additions of creative material) should not qualify for a new copyright, despite copyright claims (which properly would only apply to new material).

You may need to check the publication date and details of the work's first publication in order to determine the work's copyright status, especially for the United States, as the copyright on the original work may not have expired.

More information can be found here.

Misc. Notes Re-typeset from #243330, as the other version is rather difficult to read in places (the beaming is awkward and the accidentals on the figures very small and some of the spacing and slurs need tweaking). This version is untweaked output from Denemo (via LilyPond), and remarkably it took only 8 minutes to enter the music.

Instrumentation 3 original versions:
  1. A major: transverse flute, viola or viola da gamba
  2. B flat major: viola or viola da gamba, treble recorder (!, see comments)
  3. B flat major: viola or viola da gamba, continuo

Navigation etc.

Telemann gives three different combinations of clefs, key signatures and instrumentations at the beginnig of the first system (cf. facsimile):

  1. A major: upper staff treble clef Flute trav., lower staff alto clef Viola di Gamba, ò di Bracc.
  2. B flat major: upper staff alto clef Viola., lower staff french violin clef Flaut. dolce.
  3. B flat major: upper staff alto clef without instrument name, lower staff bass clef without instrument name.

The first version interprets the first note (note on the first leger line above the staff) as an A5 (a2 in german nomenclature), the second and third as an B flat 4 (b1). The lower staff has continuo figures, thus the third version is with continuo. The well known version for treble recorder and continuo (cf. "Arrangements and Transcriptions") is not indicated in the original print, perhaps only because there ist no possible clef-key-combination. The peculiar second version with a recorder playing the bass part two octaves higher, which leads to some problems above all in the cadences, may be Telemanns attempt to indicate the possibilty of a recorder sonata.
